  • Carpooling is when several people travel together in one individual’s personal car and share the cost of the journey. Carpool by Meru is a smart and fun way to travel. It connects people who are looking for a ride and people who are offering a ride on the same route.
  • Why should I sign up for Carpool by Meru?
  • Carpooling is economic, it allows you to make a journey without having to pay the total cost for the traveller as well as the car owner. It is environment friendly, it reduces everyone’s carbon footprint. It’s fun, you get to meet new people and share a journey together.
  • What are the charges for this service?
  • The charges for this service are determined by the car owner to offset the costs. These charges are visible for each ride before a traveller books the ride.
  • Do I have to pay Meru for this service?
  • Meru reserves the right to charge 10% of the amount from car owner’s wallet. However, for the initial period of 3 months, Meru will not charge any amount.
  • How do I search for a ride?
  • The app provides a ‘find a ride’ feature that users can use to search for rides in their direction.
  • How do I book a ride?
  • Search for a ride going in your direction, by typing your point of origin and destination and date. After you find a relevant ride, you may tap on ‘book now’ to confirm your ride.
  • How do I contact owners of cars?
  • After you book a ride, you can call the owner of the car through the app.
  • How do I share a ride?
  • You can share a ride in 3 simple steps. Sign in with your Facebook credentials, upload your photo and documents, add your car and trip details and you are ready to share your ride.
  • What are the safety precautions you have taken?
  • Carpool by Meru has many safety measures in place to ensure that you are driving with safe company. First of all, users must sign up with their valid Facebook profile. To be sure of one’s identity, we also ask users to upload a PAN card, Adhaar card or driving license. We encourage users to rate and review other passengers or car owners. To ensure the privacy of both parties, we do not share the mobile numbers either way. Instead, we have provided a feature of masked calling through our app, where the calling or receiving party do not see each other’s number. There’s also an ICE (In Case of Emergency) alert in the app, where the person can alert a trusted person.
  • What if I don’t find a ride?
  • If you don’t find a ride you are looking for, you may tap on ‘Alert me’ for notifications. We will send you a notification once a ride (going your way) is available. You may also broaden your search by altering your preferences to find more possible matches.
  • How do I pay for the ride?
  • The payment is completely cashless. Both the car owner and traveller need to register themselves with the Paytm wallet in the Carpool app and ensure adequate balance in the wallet. At the start of your ride, the traveller needs to ‘swipe to start ride’ in the app. As soon as this is done, the amount is transferred from traveller’s wallet to car owner’s wallet automatically.
  • I can’t share my ride
  • This is probably because you haven’t uploaded all your details. Make sure you have uploaded all the required documents and have filled all the necessary fields.
  • How do I cancel my ride?
  • If you want to cancel your ride, you will need to go to ‘my rides’ then tap on the ‘rides posted’ (if you are offering a ride) or ‘rides booked’ (if you are taking a ride) tab, you can then click on ‘cancel trip’.
  • How many passengers can I take?
  • You can take a maximum of 3 passengers (excluding the owner of the car)
  • How can I find out more about a car owner?
  • Every user has a profile. If you want to know more about a user, you may click on his/her profile and read up about them.
  • How do I add my car?
  • For first time users, after you have signed in through Facebook and have uploaded the requisite documents, add your car details.
  • How do I rate a co-passenger/driver/owner?
  • After a trip, you will be sent a push notification that prompts you to rate your driver/owner/co-passenger.
  • Why should I rate them?
  • The rating system allows people to get a fair idea about a user. It also helps in building a trusted community of co-travellers.
  • What do you do with my Facebook credentials?
  • A Facebook id builds credibility. It also gives people the option of looking up on a user. Your Facebook credentials are safe with us; we use your basic profile details so you don’t have to manually add it. We never post on your behalf without your consent.
